Each year, we see new trends evolving and then fading out. In a constantly changing culture where trends come as quickly as they go, it is important to understand exactly what a trend is and how can it be applied to the event industry.
A trend is the general direction in which something is developing or changing. When it comes to designing events, the role of an event producer is to innovate and create something new. Innovation has become increasingly more important as people gravitate towards having an experience, rather than simply attending an event. Today’s audience wants to feel connected to one another and desires to experience being apart of something. This drive to feel connected and to share feelings of belonging is being driven by the ever growing presence of social media.
When it comes to designing with trends, they should not simply be interpreting, but transcending. However, to transcend, we must first understand what the audience is connecting with and influenced by. One of the best ways to understand today’s audience is to pay attention to past, current, and upcoming trends.
